23: From Glen to Glen and down the mountain side.

This show features and is dedicated to Glen Pickard from youtube's 'Vids mark2'
I am just beginning to write this up and I realise that we really did miss a trick having not properly noticed the lovely Glen's second name. If we had known at the time it would have been the subject of much merriment. Luckily the good lord has offered me a second chance, let us... 'Make it so!'

This week Matt and I picked songs that we thought had good videos and Glen just picked songs that he liked. You can watch the videos by clicking the links provide. Obviously, being a radio show, having this episode rely heavily on a visual medium is truly thinking outside the box. The box marked 'sensible ideas'.

'I feel Better' by Hot Chip
This is the greatest music video of all time. Without a shadow of a doubt. People talk a lot of trash about Sledgehammer,  Daft Punk's, Da Funk, and that one where kylie flies around inside a giant penis and all her clothes fall off, (oddly the video has nothing to do with Patrick Stuart). They are all wrong. This is the Sergey Bubka of pop music videos. It may never be defeated.

'Your Hand in Mine' by Explosions in the sky
This is the first selection by Glen Pickard, which gives me me the oportunity to mention our mutual love of HBO and all they produce, and also to plug the first episode of Glen's reincarnation of the old Chanel 4 Show Vids. Engage!

'Come On My Selector' by Square Pusher
When Matt picked this track I promised that I would behave like an adult for once and not just make jokes about the title. Sadly it was a promise I could not keep.

'Host and The Guest' by Bosc Monitor
Glen houseshares with one of the members of this iconic Bristol band. Which is pretty cool. Glen works with concrete. He writes erotic fan-fiction set in the Jurrasic Park Universe. He's obviously our kind of guy.

'This Too Shall Pass' by OK Go
Reuben Lucius Goldberg was a cartoonist, sculptor, author, engineer, and inventor. Goldberg is best known for a series of popular cartoons he created depicting complex devices that perform simple tasks in indirect, convoluted ways – now known as Rube Goldberg machines. He also made this youtube video, and this youtube video and this one too.

'Good Guy's don't Always Wear White'  by Bon Jovi
When we asked Glen if he wanted to be on the show he said, 'Yes but only if I can play Bon Jovi.' We told him to go to hell. Eventually a compromise was reached. What you can't hear is me screaming 'frisbee' throughout the entire track. Still he's not all bad, he made this... The third episode of his reincarnation of the old Chanel 4 show vids 

'Who Was in my Room Last Night' the Butthole Surfers
Whenever I hear about the Butthole Surfers it makes me think of this. The point is that it's  is a damn cool video and was Beavis and Butthead's all time favourite. Also Matts'. Have you ever noticed how much Beavis idolises Butthead.  I'm just saying, I reckon Beavis has the potential to be a good kid you know... with the right guidance.

'Big Empty' by Stone Temple Pilots
Stone Temple Pilots... Has to be a reference to this right. I mean it can't be anything else. The name often gets "abbreived" to STP which is a bit like us, and our ETP acronym so yeah... we're feeling the soft fuzzy warmth of a shared fraternity. This was Glens' last choice so we can easily segue into his latest reincarnation of the old chanel 4 show vids. You might like to also visit his facebook site. He could use a few more friends. He works with Concrete. Bug him about making a new episode. He say's he's working on it, but it could be a lie.

In an experimental new format we have welcomed a band into the studio. We have Gary the Guitarist (The Black Mask) and Owen the Drummer (The Green Mask) from the band:  Los Conios possibly the most underrated and underestimated band in Bristol right now. As you will hear pretty early on, Los Conios have a sound so meaty they could open a butchers, they thrash harder than a great white on a two pound line and I can personal attest to the fact that they have amazing personal hi-gene and fierce grooming habits.

'Split' by Los Conios
This is a song about a split personality. It seems to be sung from the perspective of a man attempting to explain this predicament to his girlfriend. One of the things we like about Los Conios is their stagecraft, with a minimum of needless chatter they play out hard, in sharp suits with coloured masks covering their faces.  Like super heroes.

'Negative Creep' by Nirvana
Los Conios chose all the music this week, this one is a live track by Nirvana. Nirvana are a little known rock outfit from Seattle. Their largest claim to fame being that they once opened for the Brotherhood of Man before achieving some moderate success for themselves in the 1990's.

'Deadfall' by Snot
Before this track comes on... marvel as I ramble madly about climbing while Matt wrestles with the CD player. Obviously Matt's gonna like this track more than I do. To me it sounds like Taz from 'Taz-mania', having a Hypo. I don't want to be too mean to the singer... I don't want to talk ill of the dead. Please drive carefully people.

'Ulcer Breakout' By The Butthole Surfers
Butthole surfing is kind of like Train Surfing, or couch-surfing. It also describes a particular fetishistic usage of an internet connection.  Wait... stop... I just had a moment of inspiration for a Butthole Surfers video... A community of inbred rabit breeders fall foul to the evil plans of a mad scientist. By the time the video ends there's a whole bunch of  half-man/lady half-rabbit hybrids all going hammer and tongs in what looks like Teletubby land.

'Beyond Repair' by The Termites (now Zammo)
I going to go ahead and assume that The Termites changed their name because there is another more famous band called The Termites that have been going for 20 years and hail from Dayton USA... and also a less famous 5 piece phychobilly outfit from Scottland (The Termites). Perhaps most disturbingly 'Busted' were originally called 'The Termites' Friggin Termites Are Everywhere!!!! Long live Zammo.


'Celebrate Your Mother' The 80's Matchbox Beeline Disaster
It seems to me that this song is about smoothing over the cracks in a new step family, through the medium of music, and probably dance. More things should be done through dance. There was that song they used to make us sing at school "I am the lord of the dance said he" I always thought that was about MC Hammer.


'Devils Drop' by Los Conios
International Los Conios! knocking the doors off the studio with Devils drop. They Thank Matt Sampson, their producer... but before they can thank everyone else on the friggen planet we cut them off and start talking about tall glasses of water or something. It might have got lost in the editing. Thank you Los Conios.

Sonic Boom Six Vs. Public Enemy.
Mash Up! and I'm not talking about a potato party or even a Comedy Korean War reunion. We are talking about one song dry humping another on the dusty streets of a two horse town just a few short miles from Vegas. I like to picture Chuck D, focusing on those distant lights and pretending it's happening to someone else.

8: The massivley rare... Lost Episode.

This episode was swallowed by a Narwhal and only re-surfaced when the horny beast was captured by a group of gorilla fisherman (hoping to use the vast profits available from poaching rare animals for the 'Chinese medicine' trade to fund terrorism.) With help from various charities, we were able to give them £700 for the chewed up tape. Enough to save one whole Rhino from needless slaughter.


'Getting down with it' By The Kills
What do you do when the world is so appalling and disgusting and just plain vomit inducing that you just can't take any more? I suggest you take a leaf out of The Kills' book, change your name to Hotel and just Get down with it. In other words face the music and dance. Dance until you stray over a landmine and lose one of your legs. Dance until a child dies from a preventable illness. Rest for a moment in quiet contemplation and then start dancing again.

'Text Message' by Dann's Phone
My phone went off during this episode. I thought at one time that I might like to make a joke out of it. I have since changed my mind about that.

'Unprotected Sex with Multiple Partners' by Against Me! (Featuring Brendan Something, perhaps Brendan Kelly)
So Matt played this track by the Florida Punk band that is no longer legally allowed to give blood. According to rumour and hearsay the lead singer has now contracted chlamydia, the bassist has hepatitis and the drummer uses protection.

'The Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side' by Magnetic Fields
This is a song sung by a man to a woman (I think a woman) that is very attractive. Sort of like a Mary figure in Something About Mary. He has a car.
Magnetic Fields are kind of awesome. I got this song from the album 69 Songs About Love. Five of those songs are about a minute long and I used them to time a section of my work out routine designed to Max Out core body strength. It's called the Plank.


'Ah Ha' by The Butthole Surfers
I so wanted this to be this or even This. The later of those two links was made by a friends of mine called Pete Simson. He booked out a Cinema, got the employees to pretend to be the audience, took his girlfriend there under the pretence of a regular date and then showed the video and proposed. She said yes!

'Furr'by Blitzen Trapper
Damn you Blitzen Trapper. Damn you for getting lucky with this track. I guess this track just proves that if enough chimps bash out enough words that rhyme, they might be able to create a decent song. That's what those old trapper boys did with this little ditty. Sadly I doubt they'll ever do it again.

'I Will Play' by Brand New
Yet another track about dying alone. I think Matt Plays these tracks because he's not married like I am. I don't have to worry about dying alone. I can rest assured that millions will watch me die: on a big screen in Times Square, with cheerleaders and a marching band.
